I recently started performing at open mics in hopes that the more practice I get playing in front of people the less of a deer in headlights demeanor I will project at gigs! I typically take my
Sad Veiled Bride shtick to one or two open mics a week. The Takoma Spark open mic is an intimate event hosted at School of Musical Traditions and livestreamed, which keeps me on my best behavior.
The open mic at El Golfo, an El Salvadoran restaurant with amazing vegan options, provides a backdrop of table chatter and sizzling platters. The incredibly talented host, Juels Bland, cultivates an extemporaneous atmosphere. Thanks to Greg for the photo below.
